LSU’s interior offensive line takes a hit
LSU (6-2, 3-1) will be without the services of fourth-year junior left guard Garrett Dellinger when the #14 Tigers take on #11 Alabama (6-2, 3-2) Saturday night in Tiger Stadium.
Brian Kelly revealed that Dellinger had tightrope surgery on his ankle after injuring it in the loss against Texas A&M. There’s no timetable for Dellinger’s return as the healing process varies. Kelly said that there is a “solid chance” that Dellinger will be available next week when LSU travels to Florida.
In Kelly’s words, the “most likely” replacement for Dellinger will be redshirt freshman Paul Mubenga, who filled in for Dellinger in the Texas A&M game. Mubenga has played in five games, but Saturday would be his first career start.
“Paul has steadily worked himself up into what I would call a key backup,” Kelly said in his Monday presser with Baton Rouge media. “Somebody that is poise to go in in a pivotal time, and you expect him to get the job done.”
