Will Campbell tops the list
We’re inching closer and closer to the release of EA’s highly anticipated College Football ‘25 game and on Tuesday the developers unveiled the game’s top-100 overall players ahead of its July 19 release.
LSU was well represented in the top-100 list. Will Campbell is the highest ranked Tiger with an overall rating of 96. Campbell, Michigan corner Will Johnson, and Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon are the top-3 players in the game and all have a 96 overall rating.
Three other LSU Tigers join Campbell as a top-100 overall player. Harold Perkins is the second highest ranked Tiger (31st overall, 92 rating), Emery Jones is third (92nd overall, 90 rating), and Mason Taylor is ranked as the 98th overall player. Taylor also has an overall rating of 90.
I think the developers nailed this. If you were to ask me who are LSU’s five best players heading into this 2024 season I would have named all four of Campbell, Perkins, Jones, Taylor and probably in that order too. Garrett Nussmeier hasn’t done enough to be ahead of those four, and while I like Kyren Lacy let’s see how he fares without a pair of first round receiver teammates taking up the attention of opposing secondaries.
It’s awesome seeing Campbell getting so much respect. We know he’s awesome, scouts know he’s awesome as he’s a projected top-10 pick, and now the video game people are showing him that same level of love. It’s also nice seeing that Matt House didn’t totally destroy Harold Perkins’s reputation. Perkins should still maybe sue House for damages.
Not that video game ratings matter, but I’m surprised Emery Jones was ranked so low. But on the other hand, I’m pleasantly surprised Mason Taylor made the cut. Taylor’s numbers in 2023 dipped a bit after a strong freshman campaign, but I’d expect him to have a big season this fall.
Speaking of Taylor and Perkins, they are two of the three Tigers going to Dallas to represent the program at next week’s SEC Media Days. Garrett Nussmeier will also be going to Media Days. LSU will take the stage on Monday alongside Ole Miss, South Carolina and Vanderbilt.
