Former LSU safety Greg Brooks Jr. has officially filed a lawsuit against the school and Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge.
Brooks, a former team captain, played at LSU from 2022 to 2023. He had 74 tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble in 16 games with the Tigers. His career was cut short in 2023 since he was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
In the lawsuit that was filed, Brooks accused LSU of threatening to take away his starting position. As a result, he played in two games before getting an MRI scan.
So, where does Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center stand in all of this? Brooks claims that he has sufferred “catastrophic neurological injuries” from the surgery that was performed by Brandon Gaynor. His legal team said he’ll be “permanently disabled” because of this procedure.
LSU was asked by Yahoo Sports to comment on this legal situation. The school obviously refrained from commenting on the lawsuit.
“While LSU cannot comment on ongoing litigation, Greg Brooks remains in our thoughts and prayers as he continues to work through the rehabilitation process,” the school told Yahoo Sports. “Since the beginning of our agreement with our Championship Health Partner, Our Lady of the Lake, they have provided exceptional medical care for our student-athletes in all of our sports.”
Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center also released a statement on this matter.
“First, and foremost, our prayers remain with Greg for his continued healing and recovery. Due to patient privacy laws and pending litigation, we can’t comment on specific individuals or situations,” the hospital said. “The neurosurgical team at Our Lady of the Lake is among the most experienced in Louisiana and they give our patients the best opportunity for a positive outcome in any circumstance. Providing excellent healthcare to those we serve is our top priority.”
We’ll continue to provide updates on this situation when they’re available.
