Tigers flip one from Texas and steal the No. 1 player from Indiana
In just 24 hours LSU’s defensive line haul for the 2025 class has doubled from two commitments to four.
On Thursday we told you that defensive tackle Zion Williams had pledged to LSU’s 2025 recruiting class, and on Friday Williams was joined by two more additions along the defensive line.
First up Brandon Brown announced he was Baton Rouge bound. The low four-star defensive tackle had been previously committed to Texas, but flipped in order to follow Bo Davis who had been previously recruiting him to be a Longhorn. Hailing from Florida, Brown originally committed to Texas in December. He visited LSU unofficially for the Spring Game and took his official visit earlier in the summer.
“What stood out was how family oriented everything was and going to eat breakfast at Coach Kelly’s house proved it even more,” his mother, Nyesha Brown, told On3. “There’s nothing I don’t like about it.”
When asked about Bo Davis she said “He’s authentic. Not gonna tell my son what he wants to hear but what he needs to hear. I feel he’s the type to stay on his neck.”
Of the four major recruiting services, On3 is the highest on Brown. He’s a composite four-star, and On3 has him as their No. 218 recruit and a top-20 defensive tackle.
The third and biggest addition of the past 24 hours has been edge rusher Damien Shanklin. Shanklin is a composite four-star prospect and ranked 86th overall in the class. Coming out of the Indianapolis area, Shanklin is the No. 1 prospect in the state of Indiana and he picked LSU over other schools like Alabama, Ohio State, and Notre Dame.
Like Brown, Shanklin also visited unofficially during the Spring Game and took his official visit in June. He was primarily recruited by Kevin Peoples who has now landed the commitment from two top-100 prospects, the other being Jesse Harrold out of Tampa.
“I just feel like Coach Peoples can build me into one of those guys like Darius Robinson and get me to the next level and pursue my dreams,” Shanklin said. “I really love everything about it.”
LSU currently has 15 commitments and are neck-and-neck with Oregon for the No. 3 class in the country. Oregon, who also has 15 commits, currently has a slight edge over LSU according to On3. Ohio State and Alabama’s classes are ranked first and second respectively but both programs have more commits than both LSU and Oregon. Ohio State has 22 while the Tide have 20.
