Keeping our eyes toward the horizon that is the 2025 season
Brian Kelly had his Monday presser with Baton Rouge media leading in to the regular season finale against Oklahoma (6:00 P.M., ESPN), but maybe the most newsworthy thing discussed was LSU’s plan at constructing its 2025 roster.
Kelly said LSU will be “very aggressive” when the transfer portal opens and admitted that LSU played “under the cap” last year.
“We will be very aggressive,” Kelly said. “I think everybody that follows us knows that we weren’t very aggressive in the transfer portal. We put together a defensive line using minimal resources, we really put ourselves in a position—and I’ll use this term loosely—to stay ‘well under the cap’ so we could be quite aggressive this year.”
Speaking of the 2025 team, Kelly said that “all indications” point to wide receiver CJ Daniels returning next season, while Harold Perkins still hasn’t made a decision to enter the NFL Draft or not. Perkins, who tore his ACL, has been around the program more lately now that he’s progressed with the early part of his rehab.
“Clearly, we would love to have him back,” Kelly said. “But we know that those decisions are not easy.”
As for the here and now, LSU’s biggest challenge against Oklahoma will be limiting the running ability of Sooner quarterback Jackson Arnold. That’s not lost on Kelly, though whether or not LSU will be able to stop it is another thing.
“I think everyone here knows our history with thh quarterbacks that run the football. That will be a challenge for us.”
Arnold ran 25 times, a season high, for 131 yards in Oklahoma’s 24-3 win over Alabama last week.
