Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin had some interesting comments about Coca-Cola during a recent press conference and his LSU counterpart Brian Kelly couldn’t resist the urge to have some fun at his expense.
A few days ago, Kiffin went to the podium for his press conference and noticed a bottle of Coke sitting there. He then went into a little spiel about Coke and how much sugar it has.
“Does anybody drink Coke? You realize that 130 percent of your sugar for the entire day is in this one bottle? 65 grams of sugar,” Kiffin said.
When asked when the last time he had a Coke was, he responded, “A long time.”
So on Wednesday, when Kelly arrived at his podium with a similar bottle as well as a bottle of Smartwater, he had a little bit of fun.
Taking the Smartwater bottle, he offered a “shout-out” to Coke and started praising their products.
“Just a shout-out to our sponsor, Coke,” Kelly said. “Smartwater, great Coke product. Minerals, vitamins.”
“It’s just great for you. It’s refreshing,” Kelly said. “Healthy and Coke provides you all the products that you need, depending on what you like, and I love Smartwater.”
After he was done, one of the reporters in the crowd seemed to note that he was referencing Kiffin’s prior Coke message and gave them props for it.
Kelly and Kiffin have split their first two meetings since Kelly took over the Tigers in 2022.
The rubber match to give one coach the lead will be on October 12 at Tiger Stadium.
