LSU will kick off its 2024 season on Sept. 1 against USC. On Thursday afternoon, Brian Kelly talked about that marquee matchup while on “The Paul Finebaum Show.”
Kelly told Finebaum that he’s amped up about the LSU-USC game. It’s the type of matchup that made him want to leave Notre Dame for the SEC powerhouse.
“It’s awesome. This is what college football is about. This is why I came to LSU, to play this kind of schedule” Kelly said. “The only thing I need to do is do a better job on Sunday nights. We got beat the last two Sunday nights.”
Even though LSU will be put to the test in its season opener, Kelly sees that as a positive. In fact, he feels that way about the entire schedule for the Tigers.
“We’re excited about the schedule. It’s going to be a difficult schedule, but one where [if] you navigate through that schedule, you put yourself in a great position for the playoffs.”
LSU will face USC and Nicholls before it faces South Carolina on Sept. 14. Its schedule will really ramp up once it reaches mid-October.
Kelly is hoping to make the College Football Playoff in his third year with the Tigers.
