After LSU dropped its season opener against USC, head coach Brian Kelly slammed the table at his postgame press conference out of frustration. If his team doesn’t make a 17-point comeback this Saturday, he may slam a few more tables.
Despite being favored on the road against South Carolina, it’s pretty evident that LSU is not ready to dominate its SEC opponents.
For starters, Kelly’s defense is getting obliterated on the ground. South Carolina running back Raheim Sanders has been putting on a show this afternoon in Columbia.
LSU has also struggled to protect quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. He’s been under constant duress.
While there’s still plenty of time for LSU to turn things around, fans in Baton Rouge are officially tired of Kelly’s inconsistent coaching. Some even want him fired after today’s game.
“Fire Brian Kelly please,” an LSU fan tweeted.
Another fan asked, “How does Brian Kelly still have a job?”
“Brian Kelly is about to be flipping all of the tables after this one,” a third fan wrote.
“Brian Kelly needs to be fired immediately after this game,” another person said.
LSU signed Kelly to a 10-year, $95 million contract. It’s highly unlikely the program moves on from him after just three seasons.
That being said, Kelly knows he can’t just be decent at LSU. That school always has a championship-or-bust mindset.
With games against Alabama, Oklahoma and Ole Miss on the schedule, it’s imperative that Kelly turns things around before this season gets out of hand.
