Reese was also named the league’s Rookie of the Month
It’s been a while since we’ve checked in on Angel Reese but rest assured the Bayou Barbie is still as dominant in the WNBA as she was at LSU.
The Sky aren’t anything to brag about right now sitting at 7-11 overall and ninth place in the WNBA, but Reese is giving Chicago hope for a brighter future. Tuesday it was revealed that Reese had been voted to the WNBA All-Star team. She was one of two rookies to be named an All-Star, the other being Reese’s close personal friend Caitlin Clark. It’s the first time two rookies were named All-Stars since 2014.

Reese has been on a tear as of late. In Tuesday’s win over the Atlanta Dream, Reese had 11 points and 19 rebounds which was her 11th straight double-double. The 11 double-doubles is a single-season WNBA record and she is one away from Candace Parker’s record for consecutive double-doubles. Parker had 12 over the course of the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Reese is averaging 17.6 points and 16 boards over her last five games, highlighted by a 25 and 16 game against Clark’s Indiana Fever.

The All-Star selection isn’t her only accolade. Reese was voted the WNBA’s Rookie of the Month of June. Reese had 10 double-doubles in June and averaged 14.5 points, 13.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists for the month.

Reese, Clark and the rest of Team WNBA will take on the United States national team on All-Star Weekend. This year’s WNBA All-Star Game will serve as Team USA’s final tune up for this summer’s Olympics in Paris. The WNBA All-Star game will be on July 20 in Phoenix at 7:30 P.M.
