LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey was in the nation’s capital on Thursday night to watch Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky square off against the Washington Mystics.
Reese finished Thursday’s game with 16 points, 11 rebounds, five steals and three assists. She legitimately filled up the boxscore.
Following the Sky’s victory over the Mystics, Reese was asked about her connection with Mulkey.
Reese had nothing but kind things to say about her former head coach.
“She’ll support you no matter what. She’s like a mother to me. She calls me still, she checks in on me making sure I’m good. Checks in on my family, calls my grandma,” Reese told reporters. “It’s a relationship that a lot of people don’t see. I love Coach Mulkey.”
Even though Mulkey was in attendance to support Reese, she couldn’t help but give her former player some advice.
“She said I could be better obviously around the basket,” Reese said before cracking a smile.
That piece of advice probably came from a good place. After all, Mulkey previously raved about Reese and the accomplishments she had while at LSU.
“We are all indebted to Angel Reese for the contributions she has given to this program, helping us win our first National Championship, and the contributions she made on our university as a whole,” Mulkey said.
It wouldn’t surprise us if Mulkey attended another one of Reese’s games this WNBA season.
