More like Chicageaux!
Angel Reese is off to the WNBA.
Reese was selected in the first round, seventh overall, by the Chicago Sky in Monday night’s WNBA Draft. She is the fourth LSU player drafted in the Kim Mulkey era, joining Alexis Morris and LaDazhia Williams last year and Khayla Pointer the year before.
Reese declared for the WNBA Draft two days after LSU’s season came to an end in the Elite 8 against Iowa. Reese announced her intentions via an interview/photoshoot with Vogue Magazine.
“I’ve done everything I wanted to do in college,” Reese told Vogue. “I’ve won a national championship, I’ve gotten SEC Player of the Year, I’ve been an All-American. My ultimate goal is to be a pro — and to be one of the greatest basketball players to play, ever. I feel like I’m ready.”
A Baltimore native, Reese transferred to LSU after spending two years at Maryland. As a sophomore, she averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds with the Terrapins.
Reese may have begun her career in Maryland, but LSU is where she became one of the faces of women’s college basketball. Reese of course led LSU to the national championship in 2023, and this past season she was named the SEC’s Player of the Year.
Reese led the SEC in scoring and rebounding in consecutive seasons and set an NCAA record with 34 double-doubles during the 2022-2023 season. She also tied an NCAA women’s tournament record with 10 consecutive double-doubles. For her career she averaged 18.6 points and 12.3 rebounds.
