Angel Reese has a new podcast, and she’s already been quite open about a number of topics, including her feelings toward Caitlin Clark.
During one recent episode, Reese was asked by her co-host Maya Reese if she had been close with guard Hailey Van Lith during their one season at LSU together.
Van Lith arrived at LSU as the No. 1 transfer in the country following a stellar run at Louisville. However, the southpaw guard never seemed like a natural fit on the court with the defending champion Tigers, and she transferred to TCU this offseason.
“We weren’t super close, but I was probably one of the closer people with her on the team,” Reese said of Van Lith. “I think she was really distant from everybody else. So I kind of felt bad, so I was like let me get close to her and like see who she is, because she was the only white girl on the team. I didn’t want her to feel uncomfortable. I wanted her to feel as comfortable as she could.”
While Reese indicated she wanted to look out for Van Lith, some didn’t take too kindly to her comments.
“Understand her position of stardom in the W. But as a rookie to have a podcast I don’t see a lot of upside to this,” one person said.
“Ummmm is this a bad look on them right? Or I’m tripping,” said a second commenter.
“Why do we let anyone just grab a mic?” wondered a third poster.
“This caption is lowkey misleading to what she actually said,” a fourth person claimed.
“They tricked that poor girl into coming to the school,” a fifth person added.
Reese later said Van Lith might not have been a great fit on this past year’s LSU team, which from a basketball standpoint, makes some sense.
She added that she admires Van Lith’s work ethic and the two remain in touch.
