That Kid Jayden is off to Washington
The Heisman trophy winner is now a Commander
Jayden Daniels was selected second/third overall by the Washington Commanders. He’s the highest picked Tiger since fellow Heisman winner Joe Burrow went first overall to Cincinatti.
Daniels had one of the greatest, most dynamic seasons in college football history last fall. He was at the controls of the best offense in America and set an FBS record with a 208 passer rating.
Daniels scored 50 touchdowns—40 passing, 10 rushing—and led the country in total offense with 412.2 yards per game. He ranked third in the nation in passing touchdowns (40), passing yards (3,812), and passing yards per game (317.7).
Daniels joins Burrow as the most decorated player in program history. In addition to the Heisman, Daniels also won the Davey O’Brien, Johnny Unitas, and Manning awards. He was also named the AP and SEC’s player of the year, and was a first-team All-American.
Daniels is the most dynamic player in program history. He was our Mike Vick or Lamar Jackson. He was a threat to score any time he touched the ball and there wasn’t a defender in college football who could track him down in the open field.
But I won’t remember Jayden Daniels for all the fireworks he produced. Instead I’ll remember how cool and composed he was. No matter how bright the lights got or how many points his defense gave up, That Kid always delivered.
Congrats, Jayden!
